Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU) is proud to announce its preparations to host the prestigious 2026 FISU World University Championship Squash, a global sporting event that will bring together top university squash players from across the world.
As part of the preparations, SVU had the honour and privilege of hosting Mr. Paulo Sivieri, Manager, FISU – International University Sports Federation; Mr. Cyrus Poncha, Secretary General, Squash Rackets Federation of India; and Prof. Dr. Binu George Varghese, Joint Secretary (Sports), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), at the university campus.
The visit marked the beginning of an exciting journey, with a detailed evaluation of the venue and sporting infrastructure conducted to ensure world-class standards for the championship. Discussions focused on planning, athlete experience, facilities, and the overall vision for hosting an international university sporting event of this scale.
With state-of-the-art facilities, athlete-centric infrastructure, and a strong legacy of hosting national and international championships, Somaiya Vidyavihar University showcased its readiness to welcome the global squash community. The meeting proved to be highly fruitful, filled with enthusiasm, collaboration, and a shared commitment towards sporting excellence.
The distinguished guests expressed their appreciation and confidence in SVU as the host venue, recognising the university’s dedication towards nurturing sports talent from the grassroots to the university level.
The 2026 FISU World University Championship Squash is expected to welcome participants from over 20 leading universities across the globe to Mumbai — the vibrant cosmopolitan city known as the melting pot of Indian culture.
